Description of the project

Refugio is a gastronomic courtyard located next to the Jockey Plaza Shopping Center, on Avenida Javier Prado Este 4492, conceived as an innovative urban space that combines gastronomy, entertainment and sustainability. The project is developed from reused containers and is integrated with approximately 700 m² of green areas, consolidating itself as a benchmark for ecological architecture and conscious design in Lima.

Since its inception, the project prioritized environmental criteria through the use of organic materials, low-impact construction solutions and passive strategies aimed at reducing resource consumption. The architectural design promotes an open, flexible and connected environment, promoting the user experience and environmental comfort.

The space houses more than 20 gastronomic operators —including Peruvian and Japanese cuisine, grills and desserts—as well as a bar, live shows, music, a children's area and a lactarium, making it a social and cultural meeting place with a high affluence.

Refugio obtained the Final EDGE Certification, validating that the sustainability strategies implemented achieve the savings required by the standard.

The innovation of the Refuge Project lies in its ability to integrate sustainability, reuse of materials and urban experience in a high-turnover gastronomic format.

The project stands out for:

• Reuse existing containers and construction elements, significantly reducing incorporated carbon.
• Prioritize passive strategies such as lighting and natural ventilation in a space of intensive use.
• Integrate green areas and vegetated roofs as an active part of thermal comfort and user experience.
• Demonstrate that EDGE certification is feasible in unconventional and intermediate-scale commercial projects.
